There's a severe shortage of forensic pathologists in the U.S. Those that are working are over-burdened, and many of them don't even have credentials. A joint investigation by Frontline, ProPublica, NPR, the Investigative Reporting Program at UC Berkeley and California Watch finds the system so dysfunctional, it's likely killers are going free, and innocent people are being locked up for crimes they did not commit.
