Two separate police pursuits in East Oakland ended in death Tuesday, as California Highway Patrol officers shot and killed two armed suspects.
The San Francisco Chronicle described the incidents as "the latest in a series of violent encounters involving the agency in a city where it has maintained a heavy presence in recent years."
CHP spokesman Daniel Hill told KQED: "Unfortunately, these incidents always occur because the suspect, for whatever reason, chooses to ignore the commands of the officer and does not comply with their requests or commands."
