The U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal from billionaire Vinod Khosla, handing the Surfrider Foundation a victory for public beach access in California.

Khosla, a venture capitalist and co-founder of Sun Microsystems, has been waging a long legal battle to block public access to Martins Beach in San Mateo County.

If the Supreme Court ended up siding with Khosla, preserving public access to beaches in California and across the nation could have been severely threatened.
