Tim Olson

Tim oversees KQED’s strategic planning and digital partnerships. He works with distributors, technology companies, social media and other local and national partners to expand the reach of KQED content, deepen audience engagement, and meet KQED’s mission and business objectives.

Tim has more than 20 years of experience in directing digital strategies and product development for media companies, and working across the full range of publisher, editorial, technical and business functions. He has a history of leading innovation and transformational change in journalism, media, and education, and is active in Bay Area entrepreneurship, design thinking and startups.

Tim works closely with other public media organizations to support the growth and service of audiences across multiple local and national digital touchpoints including mobile, over the top, voice platforms and digital assistants. He has been a lead at Matter, a Silicon Valley accelerator co-founded by KQED and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. Tim was Chair of the Board of the Integrated Media Association, an industry group whose mission is to harness the power of the Internet and other new media platforms for the benefit of public broadcasters. He consults to a number of projects and organizations in and outside public broadcasting.

Tim has been a pioneer in public media’s uses of various Internet technologies, including locative media, publishing with blog tools, audio and video podcasting, online original content, and voice platforms. He has worked in media with multiple organizations including KCTS Seattle and WTTW Chicago.
