Pelosi is now the future ex-House Speaker, but those other San Francisco icons--Lincecum, Wilson, et. al.--will take a World Series victory jaunt starting 11 a.m., on Montgomery at Washington streets in San Francisco.\n\u003cp>\u003c/p>\nFrom Bay City News at 7:40 a.m:\n\u003cblockquote>\u003cp>\nAs San Francisco braces itself to accommodate the throngs of baseball fans expected to clog downtown streets for this morning's World Series victory parade, at least one institution in the parade's wake isn't taking chances.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>The University of California's Hastings College of the Law announced Tuesday that the entire school will be closed today. The school is located on McAllister Street one block east of Civic Center Plaza--ground zero for this morning's celebrations.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>According to a statement released by the school, \"the closure of the entire school, including the library, is in the interest of public safety.\"\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>The ticker-tape parade will begin at 11 a.m. on Montgomery Street at Washington Street and will funnel down Market Street, turning onto McAllister Street as it makes its way to Civic Center Plaza.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Once there, Mayor Gavin Newsom will present the players with a key to the city during a ceremony in front of City Hall set to begin around 12:30 a.m.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Dozens of die-hard fans were already pressed up against the police barricades across the street from City Hall to claim a spot front and center for this morning's celebrations.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Some fans said that they arrived at Civic Center at 10:30 p.m. and were ready to spend the night under the stars in the name of the team.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Those planning to attend the festivities are advised to take public transportation and several agencies are planning to ramp up service to accommodate the crowds.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>The San Francisco Municipal Railway will run extra Muni Metro trains, BART will run longer trains, and Golden Gate Ferry has added two extra morning departures, according to representatives from those agencies.\u003c/p>\n\u003c/blockquote>\n\u003cp>KQED's Amanda Stupi will be live-blogging from the parade route. Pelosi is now the future ex-House Speaker, but those other San Francisco icons--Lincecum, Wilson, et. al.--will take a World Series victory jaunt starting 11 a.m., on Montgomery at Washington streets in San Francisco.\n\u003cp>\u003c/p>\nFrom Bay City News at 7:40 a.m:\n\u003cblockquote>\u003cp>\nAs San Francisco braces itself to accommodate the throngs of baseball fans expected to clog downtown streets for this morning's World Series victory parade, at least one institution in the parade's wake isn't taking chances.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>The University of California's Hastings College of the Law announced Tuesday that the entire school will be closed today. The school is located on McAllister Street one block east of Civic Center Plaza--ground zero for this morning's celebrations.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>According to a statement released by the school, \"the closure of the entire school, including the library, is in the interest of public safety.\"\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>The ticker-tape parade will begin at 11 a.m. on Montgomery Street at Washington Street and will funnel down Market Street, turning onto McAllister Street as it makes its way to Civic Center Plaza.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Once there, Mayor Gavin Newsom will present the players with a key to the city during a ceremony in front of City Hall set to begin around 12:30 a.m.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Dozens of die-hard fans were already pressed up against the police barricades across the street from City Hall to claim a spot front and center for this morning's celebrations.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Some fans said that they arrived at Civic Center at 10:30 p.m. and were ready to spend the night under the stars in the name of the team.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Those planning to attend the festivities are advised to take public transportation and several agencies are planning to ramp up service to accommodate the crowds.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>The San Francisco Municipal Railway will run extra Muni Metro trains, BART will run longer trains, and Golden Gate Ferry has added two extra morning departures, according to representatives from those agencies.\u003c/p>\n\u003c/blockquote>\n\u003cp>KQED's Amanda Stupi will be live-blogging from the parade route. "content": "\u003cp>I hope you can hear what I hear from the balcony of my apartment.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>As the morning newscaster I should be asleep right now -- 4:00 am comes around quickly -- but I had to see it, and hear it for myself. Something in me knew that as the game wound down, as Brian Wilson did what he does so well, that I should mute the TV, open my window and listen to the city. Sure enough, that instinct was right; San Francisco was going audibly nuts.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Two buildings down, people stepped onto their balconies and shouted their delight to each other. Down the hill fireworks blasted in the skies, twinkling and beaming almost as brightly as the smiles on countless faces. On every street in town, cars in endless rivers of headlights honked and honked, their drivers pumping their fists and waving their hands.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>That jolt you felt? It wasn't a tremor. It was an entire city jumping for joy, together.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Those of us who do this job feel very honored to be living witnesses to the life of this community. Often what we see is unpleasant, but sometimes -- like this time -- it's more than pleasant. It's euphoric. It's elation in surround sound. So go ahead, Giants: take your champagne baths. "content": "\u003cdiv class=\"post-body\">\u003cp>\u003cp>I hope you can hear what I hear from the balcony of my apartment.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>As the morning newscaster I should be asleep right now -- 4:00 am comes around quickly -- but I had to see it, and hear it for myself. Something in me knew that as the game wound down, as Brian Wilson did what he does so well, that I should mute the TV, open my window and listen to the city. Sure enough, that instinct was right; San Francisco was going audibly nuts.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Two buildings down, people stepped onto their balconies and shouted their delight to each other. Down the hill fireworks blasted in the skies, twinkling and beaming almost as brightly as the smiles on countless faces. On every street in town, cars in endless rivers of headlights honked and honked, their drivers pumping their fists and waving their hands.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>That jolt you felt? It wasn't a tremor. It was an entire city jumping for joy, together.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Those of us who do this job feel very honored to be living witnesses to the life of this community. Often what we see is unpleasant, but sometimes -- like this time -- it's more than pleasant. It's euphoric. It's elation in surround sound. So go ahead, Giants: take your champagne baths. You've earned them. I'm content to bathe in the sweet sounds of victory, all around me.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>\u003c/p>\u003c/div>",

He gave up three hits over eight innings and struck out 10.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>The two-time NL Cy Young winner arrived at Rangers Ballpark wearing a bow tie, as if he was going to a party. He had one on the mound, for sure.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>\"Pretty collected. I was very poised out there. From the first inning on my adrenaline kind of just dissipated and I was able to calm down,'' he said.\u003cbr>\nNelson Cruz homered in the bottom of the seventh, but that was all for Texas.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Wilson pitched a perfect ninth for a save, completing a surprising romp through the postseason for a pitching-rich team that waited until the final day to clinch a playoff spot.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Wilson struck out Cruz swinging to end it, turned toward center field and crossed his wrists in front of his chest as he does after all his saves.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Manager Bruce Bochy enjoys calling his Giants a ragtag bunch. Maybe Renteria, Cody Ross, Huff and Freddy Sanchez fit that description. His 11th-inning single ended Game 7 of the 1997 World Series and lifted Florida over Cleveland. Forget that he made the last out in the 2004 Series that finished Boston's sweep of St. Louis -- this journeyman's path led to another title, helped by his go-ahead home run in Game 2.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>\"It was a tough year for me,'' the oft-injured shortstop said. \"I told myself to keep working hard and keep in shape because something is going to be good this year.''\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>A team seemingly free of egos did everything right to take the lead in the seventh. Ross, the surprising MVP of the NL championship series, stayed square and hit a leadoff single and Juan Uribe followed with another hit up the middle.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>That put a runner at second base for the first time in the game and brought up Huff, who led the Giants in home runs this year. So what did he do? He expertly put down the first sacrifice bunt of his career.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Renteria homered with two outs, and that was enough.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>\"Wow. I don't know. What can you say,'' the 23-year-old Posey said. \"This is ultimate high in baseball and I got to experience it my first year here. I don't know what to say.''\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>The Giants won their previous title when they played in New York at the Polo Grounds. That's where Mays raced back for perhaps the most famous catch of all time.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>They moved West in 1958 and had tried ever since to escape a sort of big league Alcatraz -- the place where teams get stuck for decades as also-rans. The Red Sox and White Sox got free, not so the Cubs and Indians.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>So clang the cable car bells. Loudly, too. Baseball's best play by the Bay.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Exactly when these Giants turned into world beaters is hard to say. Trailing San Diego by 7 games in the NL West on July 4, they meandered in the wild-card race until the stretch run, winning the division and finishing 92-70.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Come the playoffs, they became dangerous. Any well-armed team is. Start with Cain _ three postseason starts, a 0.00 ERA. Throw in Lincecum, the two-time Cy Young winner. Add Madison Bumgarner, the 21-year-old rookie who helped blank Texas in Game 4.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>San Francisco posted a trio of one-run wins in the opening round that sent Atlanta manager Bobby Cox into retirement, then stopped the two-time defending NL champion Phillies in the championship series. Those wins, like this, came on the road.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Texas became the latest Series newcomer to make a quick exit. Houston (2005) and Colorado (2007) got swept in their first appearances, Tampa Bay (2008) stuck around for just five games.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>The AL champion Rangers became the first team since 1966 to get shut out twice in a World Series, with big hitters Hamilton, Vladimir Guerrero and Cruz left taking half-swings or flailing wildly.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Hamilton, the probable AL MVP, went 2 for 20 with one RBI.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>\"We just got cold at the wrong time with the bats,'' he said.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>The Rangers' franchise wrapped up its 50th season overall, in good hands with Nolan Ryan as president and part-owner. If only Big Tex could teach his team to hit, too.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Many years ago, one swing of the bat prompted a call that resonates throughout Giants history and beyond.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>\"The Giants win the pennant! Add Madison Bumgarner, the 21-year-old rookie who helped blank Texas in Game 4.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>San Francisco posted a trio of one-run wins in the opening round that sent Atlanta manager Bobby Cox into retirement, then stopped the two-time defending NL champion Phillies in the championship series. In ads and stump speeches, the city is repeatedly flogged as a symbol of the kind of out-of-step liberalism that Republicans vow to banish if they wrest control of Congress from Ms. Pelosi and the Democrats.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Nationally, the Republican National Committee has begun a “Fire Pelosi 2010 Bus Tour,” and ads tying Democrats to San Francisco have proliferated. In Georgia, a conservative Democrat seeking to distance himself from Pelosi is running a commercial featuring gyrating hippies and warning: “Georgia is a long way from San Francisco.”\n\u003c/p>\u003c/blockquote>\n\u003cp>Now, as conventional wisdom and a slew of polls have Pelosi, the first woman Speaker of the House, poised to \u003ca href=\"http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/11/01/agreeing-to-disagree-size-of-republican-wave-hard-to-predict/\">lose\u003c/a> that historic position tomorrow, San Franciscans are \u003ca href=\"http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/11/01/AR2010110103067.html\">rallying around her\u003c/a>. Even the Bay Guardian, never a fan, endorsed her re-election, even as it wondered at her status as a liberal bete-noire:\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>\u003c!--more-->\u003c/p>\n\u003cblockquote>\u003cp>It's odd that Pelosi's become such a symbol of liberal Democrats and fodder for the right-wing attack machine. When you look at her record, she's hardly a San Francisco liberal and certainly no progressive. She's not even a strong supporter of same-sex marriage. She was bad on the war for too long and seems far more interested in raising money than representing her constituents. But she did salvage the health care bill, and she's held up as Obama's chief Capitol Hill ally under enormous pressure, and if the Democrats survive with control of the House, she'll stay speaker. If not, she should think about retiring.\u003c/p>\u003c/blockquote>\n\u003cp>And of course, it's not just Pelosi who is on the chopping block tomorrow. If Democrats lose the House, the entire party agenda, which many in the overwhelmingly Democratic Bay Area support, will most certainly be stalled if not ended.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>\u003c/p>\nSo is it any wonder that as the \"hope and change\" that so many in the Bay Area invested in two years ago is on the brink of sputtering out, residents here have retreated into the world of sports? And it doesn't take a local with the metaphorical chops of Herman Melville to look at the San Francisco-Texas World Series matchup as a happy \u003ca href=\"http://spectator.org/archives/2010/10/27/a-red-state-blue-state-world-s\">proxy\u003c/a> for the cultural/political war occurring in the real world. Last night a casual fan told me she \"really wanted the Giants to win,\" because she wanted so badly to beat Texas. Not the Rangers, but the state. The \u003ca href=\"http://bombasticsports.com/?p=5139\">parading of the two Bushes\u003c/a> to wild applause before Sunday's game probably didn't help. But even before W, who once co-owned the Rangers prior to driving liberals crazy as president, appeared on the field, the culture of the Texas team was bound to rankle some in the Bay Area.\n\u003cp>\u003c/p>\nFrom The American Spectator:\n\u003cblockquote>\u003cp>\n...when Rangers center fielder Josh Hamilton accepted the American League Championship Series MVP the first thing he did was to praise God and Jesus Christ. Hamilton was loudly applauded by the sold out crowd at Rangers Ballpark for this acknowledgment. Could you imagine the flak Hamilton would have caught had he uttered such praise in San Francisco? Half the crowd would have been on the phone with the ACLU.\n\u003c/p>\u003c/blockquote>\n\u003cp>But if Bay Area denizens are dissing Texas among themselves, the potshots that Texans are taking, like those from the rest of the country, are public. The Examiner Monday \u003ca href=\"http://www.sfexaminer.com/local/A-Texas-size-boot-full-of-reality-by-the-Bay-106427869.html\">quotes\u003c/a> from a nasty \u003ca href=\"http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/localnews/columnists/sblow/stories/102710dnmetblow.1cb651576.html\">column\u003c/a> by Dallas Morning News sportswriter Steve Blow: \u003c/p>\n\u003cblockquote>\u003cp>Frankly, I'm surprised they still play baseball in San Francisco.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>I figured that by now someone here would have decided that baseball chalk isn't Earth-kind or that the game is overtly sexist or gender-role confining or some such claptrap.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>San Francisco doesn't deserve to win the World Series . Maybe every resident deserves a Nobel Prize for being so dang enlightened. But, please, save baseball's highest achievement for a bunch of Regular Joes who earned it. \u003c/p>\u003c/blockquote>\n\u003cp>Blow goes on...\u003c/p>\n\u003cblockquote>\u003cp>Do I have to tell you who represents San Francisco? And if the Giants win it all tonight, or in the next few days, there is going to be a joyous and (pen)insular celebration here in this lonely part of the American cultural landscape, just before the rest of the country moves on to whatever it's going to do despite what we may think. "content": "\u003cdiv class=\"post-body\">\u003cp>\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>From a recent article in the Bay Citizen titled \u003ca href=\"http://www.baycitizen.org/elections-2010/story/campaigns-seek-portray-liberal-demon-bay/\">Campaigns Seek to Portray Liberal Demon by the Bay\u003c/a>. \u003c/p>\n\u003cblockquote>\u003cp>\nIn the waning days of a highly charged election season, Republicans near and far are united against a common opponent: San Francisco. In ads and stump speeches, the city is repeatedly flogged as a symbol of the kind of out-of-step liberalism that Republicans vow to banish if they wrest control of Congress from Ms. Pelosi and the Democrats.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Nationally, the Republican National Committee has begun a “Fire Pelosi 2010 Bus Tour,” and ads tying Democrats to San Francisco have proliferated. In Georgia, a conservative Democrat seeking to distance himself from Pelosi is running a commercial featuring gyrating hippies and warning: “Georgia is a long way from San Francisco.”\n\u003c/p>\u003c/blockquote>\n\u003cp>Now, as conventional wisdom and a slew of polls have Pelosi, the first woman Speaker of the House, poised to \u003ca href=\"http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/11/01/agreeing-to-disagree-size-of-republican-wave-hard-to-predict/\">lose\u003c/a> that historic position tomorrow, San Franciscans are \u003ca href=\"http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/11/01/AR2010110103067.html\">rallying around her\u003c/a>. Even the Bay Guardian, never a fan, endorsed her re-election, even as it wondered at her status as a liberal bete-noire:\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>\u003c!--more-->\u003c/p>\n\u003cblockquote>\u003cp>It's odd that Pelosi's become such a symbol of liberal Democrats and fodder for the right-wing attack machine. When you look at her record, she's hardly a San Francisco liberal and certainly no progressive. She's not even a strong supporter of same-sex marriage. She was bad on the war for too long and seems far more interested in raising money than representing her constituents. But she did salvage the health care bill, and she's held up as Obama's chief Capitol Hill ally under enormous pressure, and if the Democrats survive with control of the House, she'll stay speaker. If not, she should think about retiring.\u003c/p>\u003c/blockquote>\n\u003cp>And of course, it's not just Pelosi who is on the chopping block tomorrow. If Democrats lose the House, the entire party agenda, which many in the overwhelmingly Democratic Bay Area support, will most certainly be stalled if not ended.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>\u003c/p>\nSo is it any wonder that as the \"hope and change\" that so many in the Bay Area invested in two years ago is on the brink of sputtering out, residents here have retreated into the world of sports? And it doesn't take a local with the metaphorical chops of Herman Melville to look at the San Francisco-Texas World Series matchup as a happy \u003ca href=\"http://spectator.org/archives/2010/10/27/a-red-state-blue-state-world-s\">proxy\u003c/a> for the cultural/political war occurring in the real world. Last night a casual fan told me she \"really wanted the Giants to win,\" because she wanted so badly to beat Texas. Not the Rangers, but the state. The \u003ca href=\"http://bombasticsports.com/?p=5139\">parading of the two Bushes\u003c/a> to wild applause before Sunday's game probably didn't help. But even before W, who once co-owned the Rangers prior to driving liberals crazy as president, appeared on the field, the culture of the Texas team was bound to rankle some in the Bay Area.\n\u003cp>\u003c/p>\nFrom The American Spectator:\n\u003cblockquote>\u003cp>\n...when Rangers center fielder Josh Hamilton accepted the American League Championship Series MVP the first thing he did was to praise God and Jesus Christ. Hamilton was loudly applauded by the sold out crowd at Rangers Ballpark for this acknowledgment. Could you imagine the flak Hamilton would have caught had he uttered such praise in San Francisco? Half the crowd would have been on the phone with the ACLU.\n\u003c/p>\u003c/blockquote>\n\u003cp>But if Bay Area denizens are dissing Texas among themselves, the potshots that Texans are taking, like those from the rest of the country, are public. The Examiner Monday \u003ca href=\"http://www.sfexaminer.com/local/A-Texas-size-boot-full-of-reality-by-the-Bay-106427869.html\">quotes\u003c/a> from a nasty \u003ca href=\"http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/localnews/columnists/sblow/stories/102710dnmetblow.1cb651576.html\">column\u003c/a> by Dallas Morning News sportswriter Steve Blow: \u003c/p>\n\u003cblockquote>\u003cp>Frankly, I'm surprised they still play baseball in San Francisco.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>I figured that by now someone here would have decided that baseball chalk isn't Earth-kind or that the game is overtly sexist or gender-role confining or some such claptrap.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>San Francisco doesn't deserve to win the World Series . Maybe every resident deserves a Nobel Prize for being so dang enlightened. A’s fans watched in the background as the Giants broke ground on Pac Bell SBC AT&T Park, made the World Series run in 2002 and as they cheered for every Barry Bonds blast that went kerplunk into McCovey Cove. We saw a Moneyball offense that was barely good enough for Tim Hudson, Mark Mulder and Barry Zito to manage a few wins, a tight-fisted ownership in the early part of the decade that wouldn’t pay for budding stars, a handful of first-round playoff exits and later an owner who has not exactly been secret about his disdain for Oakland.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>When it comes down it, really the only two things the A’s have over the Giants are the four championships and the fact that Brad Pitt will probably never play Brian Sabean in a movie. Tim Lincecum could walk any most any store in San Francisco and be mobbed. Trevor Cahill, Brett Anderson and Gio Gonzalez? Maybe only some A’s fans could pick them out of a crowd.\n\u003c/p>\u003c/blockquote>\n\u003cp>As a native New Yorker and Mets' fan who spent a good portion of my childhood skulking around and moping during the Yankee Glory Years - 1970s version, I say, \"I'm with you, brother.\" But as a current Giants' fan who has adopted the team wholeheartedly and has been waiting a long time for a title, I say, \"Tough noogies!\" \u003c/p>\n\u003cp>But I don't want to add any fuel to this fire. In New York, Mets vs. Yankees is like the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Fox vs. MSNBC, or Apple vs. Windows: best not to bring it up unless you're ready to go to the mat. We saw a Moneyball offense that was barely good enough for Tim Hudson, Mark Mulder and Barry Zito to manage a few wins, a tight-fisted ownership in the early part of the decade that wouldn’t pay for budding stars, a handful of first-round playoff exits and later an owner who has not exactly been secret about his disdain for Oakland.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>When it comes down it, really the only two things the A’s have over the Giants are the four championships and the fact that Brad Pitt will probably never play Brian Sabean in a movie. Tim Lincecum could walk any most any store in San Francisco and be mobbed. Trevor Cahill, Brett Anderson and Gio Gonzalez? Maybe only some A’s fans could pick them out of a crowd.\n\u003c/p>\u003c/blockquote>\n\u003cp>As a native New Yorker and Mets' fan who spent a good portion of my childhood skulking around and moping during the Yankee Glory Years - 1970s version, I say, \"I'm with you, brother.\" But as a current Giants' fan who has adopted the team wholeheartedly and has been waiting a long time for a title, I say, \"Tough noogies!\" \u003c/p>\n\u003cp>But I don't want to add any fuel to this fire.
