Boom-bust. Starting with the Gold Rush in 1849, the Bay Area has experienced dramatic up-and-down cycles that generate tremendous new wealth for some and trouble for others. Exhibit A is the current tech boom. KQED’s “Boomtown” series seeks to identify not only what is happening in real time in this boom but drawing out the causes and possible solutions to the conflicts and pressures between the old and the new.
