"bio": "• I write and edit stories about how Silicon Valley power and policies shape everyday life in California. I’m also passionate about making Bay Area history and culture more accessible to a broad public. • I’ve been a journalist for most of my life, starting in high school with The Franklin Press in Los Angeles, where I grew up. While earning my first degree in English at UC Berkeley, I got my start in public radio at KALX-FM. After completing a second degree in journalism at Cal, I landed my first professional job at Marketplace, then moved on to KPCC (now LAist), and then KQED, where I hosted The California Report for more than seven years. • My reporting has appeared on NPR, The World, WBUR’s \u003ci>Here & Now\u003c/i>, and the BBC. He stayed in that position until he retired in July 2007.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>He served as BART's interim general manager on two previous occasions.\u003cbr>\nDugger, who joined BART in 1992 and became its general manager in August 2007, said Wednesday that she will step down on April 22. The online news site recently commissioned a supervisor at San Francisco State University’s biology lab to analyze the “bacterial content of a random BART seat.” The findings:\u003c/p>\n\u003cblockquote>\u003cp>Fecal and skin-borne bacteria resistant to antibiotics were found in a seat on a train headed from Daly City to Dublin/Pleasanton. Further testing on the skin-borne bacteria showed characteristics of methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA, the drug-resistant bacterium that causes potentially lethal infections, although Franklin cautioned that the MRSA findings were preliminary.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>High concentrations of at least nine bacteria strains and several types of mold were found on the seat. Even after Franklin cleaned the cushion with an alcohol wipe, potentially harmful bacteria were found growing in the fabric…\u003c/p>\n\u003c/blockquote>\n\u003cp>\u003c!--more-->\u003cbr>\nSounds highly yucky. But not to worry. There’s bacteria everywhere, of course. Still, that doesn’t mean you have to welcome it with open epidermis.
