Listen to the interview below.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Li, an undocumented immigrant, was freed after Sen. Dianne Feinstein introduced a private bill to delay his deportation until after Congress considers the \u003ca href=\"http://dreamact.info/\">DREAM Act\u003c/a>. That legislation would allow certain otherwise deportable students to obtain \u003ca href=\"http://dreamact.info/faq/1#1n5252\">conditional permanent residency\u003c/a>, good for six years. \u003c/p>\n\u003cp>In the interview, Li describes in detail his arrest at home and his detention.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>“They don’t treat you like people,” Li said of his handling by ICE agents at his arrest. “They are very rude. They treat you as a criminal. I was just going to school studying. To be treated like that was a very difficult experience.”\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Li said he shared a cell, with three toilets and four showers, with about 60 other people. He said he talked to his family at least once a day, and that his lawyer kept in contact with him about his case. \u003c/p>\n\u003cp>[ad fullwidth]\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Li, who was never told he was in the country illegally by his parents, said he doesn”t have contingency plans in case ICE again seeks to deport him. That legislation would allow certain otherwise deportable students to obtain \u003ca href=\"http://dreamact.info/faq/1#1n5252\">conditional permanent residency\u003c/a>, good for six years. \u003c/p>\n\u003cp>In the interview, Li describes in detail his arrest at home and his detention.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>“They don’t treat you like people,” Li said of his handling by ICE agents at his arrest. “They are very rude. They treat you as a criminal. I was just going to school studying. To be treated like that was a very difficult experience.”\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Li said he shared a cell, with three toilets and four showers, with about 60 other people. He said he talked to his family at least once a day, and that his lawyer kept in contact with him about his case. \u003c/p>\n\u003cp>\u003c/p>\u003c/div>",

Li is a 20-year-old nursing student at City College of San Francisco and is currently being held in an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center in Arizona for being in the country illegally. Li’s lawyer, Sin Yen Ling, issued a statement Friday saying that ICE planned to deport Li to Peru on Monday. Li himself also told the \u003ca href=\"http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2010/11/11/BA7T1GASBL.DTL\">Chronicle\u003c/a> that his lawyer told him the same thing. Details on today’s protest, from Shuka Kalantari:\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>\u003c/p>\n\u003cul>\n\u003cli>Sang Chi, Li’s Asian American History instructor, said he talks to Li every couple of days. Chi said that Li told him he’s been on a hunger strike for several days.\n\u003c/li>\u003cli>Roughly three dozen protesters attended, mostly students and some CCSF faculty.\u003c/li>\n\u003cli>A fellow student and friend, Marilyn Luu, is in contact with Li. The subject concerns the lack of thoroughness by referral agencies in checking contractors' immigration status when money's on the line. The email doesn't speak to the specifics of Whitman's Diaz hire or to any wrongdoing on Town & Country's part, just to the general attitude of the industry on this issue:\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>\u003c!--more-->\u003c/p>\n\u003cblockquote>\u003cp>I took a day job (a few years ago) with a temp agency, first as a receptionist, then as the person to fill job orders and hire workers to fill those orders.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>The basic operation was to take anybody who applied – have them fill out paper work, provide documentation, and put them into the system. If someone was suspect or didn’t speak English that well we only tapped them when absolutely necessary, in a time crunch. But that pressure to fill a position is very strong.
