"bio": "Kelly Wilkinson is a radio journalist living in San Francisco. You can hear her reporting frequently on KQED FM and \u003ca href=\"http://www.californiareport.org/\">The California Report\u003c/a>. In addition to covering California and Bay Area news, Kelly writes the (mostly) crafty blog \u003ca href=\"http://www.makegrowgather.com/\">Make Grow Gather\u003c/a>. There she chronicles her love of making things like lemon curd from foraged fruit, spray-painted lampshades and cut felt placemats. The projects she creates are regularly picked up by national websites and magazines. Kelly grew up in a renovated barn in Virginia and is constantly trying to bring a little bit of her rural upbringing to her now-urban life. By day, she catches the N-Judah out the front door. By weekend, she tends bees and grows vegetables in the backyard.",

"bio": "• I write and edit stories about how Silicon Valley power and policies shape everyday life in California. I’m also passionate about making Bay Area history and culture more accessible to a broad public. • I’ve been a journalist for most of my life, starting in high school with The Franklin Press in Los Angeles, where I grew up. While earning my first degree in English at UC Berkeley, I got my start in public radio at KALX-FM. After completing a second degree in journalism at Cal, I landed my first professional job at Marketplace, then moved on to KPCC (now LAist), and then KQED, where I hosted The California Report for more than seven years. • My reporting has appeared on NPR, The World, WBUR’s \u003ci>Here & Now\u003c/i>, and the BBC. I also guest host for KQED’s \u003ci>Forum\u003c/i>, as well as the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco. • I speak periodically on media, democracy and technology issues, and do voiceover work for documentaries and educational video projects. • Outside of the studio, you'll find me hiking Bay Area trails and whipping up Insta-ready meals in my kitchen. • I do not accept gifts, money, or favors from anyone connected to my reporting, I don't pay people for information, and I do not support or donate to political causes. • I strive to treat the people I report on with fairness, honesty, and respect. I also recognize there are often multiple sides to a story and work to verify information through multiple sources and documentation. If I get something wrong, I correct it.",

"content": "\u003cp>Although Judge Vaughn Walker informed the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals last week that he was planning to use the excerpt from the Prop. 8 trial again this week in a talk at Gonzaga University Law School, a spokeswoman now tells me the retired jurist has decided not to.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Instead, Walker will show tapes from the \u003ca href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuremberg_Trials\">Nuremberg trials\u003c/a> which she says \"he feels make a tremendously strong statement about transparency in the courtroom.\" That lecture about the history of cameras in the courtroom is scheduled to take place Thursday at Gonzaga in Spokane. Not sure if there's an intended message in replacing Prop. 8 supporters with Nazis.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Walker's \u003ca href=\"http://ww2.kqed.org/news/tag/vaughn-walker/\">use\u003c/a> of the 3-minute trial segment during a talk at the University of Arizona in Phoenix February 18th sparked calls by Prop. 8 supporters to have Judge Walker turn over all his trial recordings. "content": "\u003cdiv class=\"post-body\">\u003cp>\u003cp>Although Judge Vaughn Walker informed the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals last week that he was planning to use the excerpt from the Prop. 8 trial again this week in a talk at Gonzaga University Law School, a spokeswoman now tells me the retired jurist has decided not to.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Instead, Walker will show tapes from the \u003ca href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuremberg_Trials\">Nuremberg trials\u003c/a> which she says \"he feels make a tremendously strong statement about transparency in the courtroom.\" That lecture about the history of cameras in the courtroom is scheduled to take place Thursday at Gonzaga in Spokane. Not sure if there's an intended message in replacing Prop. 8 supporters with Nazis.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Walker's \u003ca href=\"http://ww2.kqed.org/news/tag/vaughn-walker/\">use\u003c/a> of the 3-minute trial segment during a talk at the University of Arizona in Phoenix February 18th sparked calls by Prop. 8 supporters to have Judge Walker turn over all his trial recordings. His decision to forego use of that segment this week reduces pressure on the 9th Circuit to act by Thursday.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>\u003c/p>\u003c/div>",

That's down from 71.7 percent last year and 72.6 percent in 2009.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>The rate of out-of-state students being offered admission jumped to more than 60 percent this year from about 51 percent in 2010 and 44 percent in 2009.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>The admission rate also increased for international students applying as freshmen in 2011.
