What are the Whooping Cough Rates and Deadlines for Urban School Districts in California?

On The California Report this morning, Ana Tintocalis reported on the state law that requires California’s Middle and high school students to be vaccinated against pertussis, or whooping cough, in order to attend school.

Getting full compliance has been tough going. In San Francisco, for instance, roughly 14% of students are still not vaccinated or haven’t shown proof they’ve received the shot.

San Francisco and other districts that are keeping students home are losing thousands or in some cases millions of dollars because schools receive state funding based on attendance. So some districts are defying the law and allowing unvaccinated students on campus.

And here’s the data on pertussis vaccination rates for the state’s large urban school districts, compiled by Ana Tintocalis:
