His newest collection, Kathmandu, was inspired by recovery efforts in Nepal after the devastating 2015 earthquake. Art School followed Fernandez's process as he sketched, sourced fabric, and designed his new project, revealed at a culminating fashion show in spring 2016.\u003c/span>\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400\">For Zachary Fernandez, designing is an art form and a way to communicate his ideas. He considers how his intentions for a new collection will translate to his audience, and pays attention to his process and evolution, which helps him grow professionally. "content": "\u003cp>Sunday marks a year since the Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage nationwide.\u003cbr>\n\u003c!--more-->In a bitterly divided 5-to-4 decision, the court on June 26, 2015 ruled that same-sex couples deserved equal protection under the law as guaranteed by the Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>\"In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were. \" Justice Anthony Kennedy, the swing vote, wrote for \u003ca href=\"http://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/14pdf/14-556_3204.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the majority\u003c/a>. \"They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them this right.\"\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Until the court's ruling, same-sex marriage was still outlawed in 13 states. And prior to 2004, no states allowed it. Massachusetts took the first step, allowing the first legal gay marriages to proceed that May. And while other states were initially slow to follow suit, a sea change of public opinion and laws swept the nation over the course of the next decade, resulting in a rapid expansion of gay marriage rights.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>But much like other major civil rights victories, the struggle doesn't end just because the law has changed. Today, just two weeks after 49 people were gunned down in a gay nightclub in Orlando, LGBT rights and protections remain far from guaranteed in many regions throughout the nation. "content": "\u003cdiv class=\"post-body\">\u003cp>\u003cp>Sunday marks a year since the Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage nationwide.\u003cbr>\n\u003c!--more-->In a bitterly divided 5-to-4 decision, the court on June 26, 2015 ruled that same-sex couples deserved equal protection under the law as guaranteed by the Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>\"In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were. \" Justice Anthony Kennedy, the swing vote, wrote for \u003ca href=\"http://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/14pdf/14-556_3204.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the majority\u003c/a>. \"They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them this right.\"\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Until the court's ruling, same-sex marriage was still outlawed in 13 states. And prior to 2004, no states allowed it. Massachusetts took the first step, allowing the first legal gay marriages to proceed that May. And while other states were initially slow to follow suit, a sea change of public opinion and laws swept the nation over the course of the next decade, resulting in a rapid expansion of gay marriage rights.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>But much like other major civil rights victories, the struggle doesn't end just because the law has changed. The incident is the deadliest mass shooting in American history.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>This is the 133rd shooting of 2016 in which four or more people, including the gunman, have been killed or injured by gunfire during a single instance, according to the \u003ca href=\"http://www.gunviolencearchive.org/reports/mass-shooting\" target=\"_blank\">Gun Violence Archive\u003c/a>, which categorizes such incidents as a \"mass shootings.\"\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Of the 133 incidents in 2016 listed on the GVA site, 11 resulted in the deaths of four or more people (including the gunman), 10 resulted in the deaths of three people and 14 resulted in the deaths of two people.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>In fact, there has never been one officially accepted definition of a \"mass shooting.\" And as the \u003ca href=\"https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2015/12/03/what-makes-a-mass-shooting-in-america/\" target=\"_blank\">Washington Post\u003c/a> notes: \"The government has never even defined 'mass shooting' as a stand-alone category.\"\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>\u003c/p>\u003c/div>",
