"bio": "Gabriela Quirós is the \u003cstrong>supervising producer for KQED's web science video series \u003ca href=\"https://www.kqed.org/deeplook\">Deep Look\u003c/a>\u003c/strong>. She joined KQED as a TV producer when its science series QUEST started in 2006 and has covered everything from Alzheimer’s to bee die-offs to dark energy.\r\n\r\nShe won a 2022 AAAS Kavli Science Journalism Award with a team of her Deep Look colleagues. She has won six regional Emmys as a video producer and has shared eight more as the coordinating producer of Deep Look. The episode she produced about \u003ca href=\"https://www.kqed.org/science/728086/how-mosquitoes-use-six-needles-to-suck-your-blood\">How Mosquitoes Use Six Needles to Suck Your Blood\u003c/a> won a Webby \"People's Voice\" award. She has also earned awards from the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival, the Society of Professional Journalists and the Society of Environmental Journalists.\r\n\r\nHer videos for KQED have also aired on NOVA scienceNOW and the PBS NewsHour, and appeared on NPR.org.\r\n\r\nAs an independent filmmaker, she produced and directed the hour-long documentary \u003ca href=\"http://lpbp.org/beautiful-sin-qa-with-producer-gabriela-quiros/\">\u003cem>Beautiful Sin\u003c/em>\u003c/a>, about the surprising story of how Costa Rica became the only country in the world to outlaw in vitro fertilization. The film aired in 2015 on public television stations throughout the U.S., and in Costa Rica.\r\n\r\nShe started her journalism career as a newspaper reporter in Costa Rica, where she grew up. She won the National Science Journalism Award there for a series of articles about organic agriculture, and developed a life-long interest in health reporting. She moved to the Bay Area in 1996 to study documentary filmmaking at the University of California, Berkeley, where she received master’s degrees in journalism and Latin American studies.",

"bio": "Elizabeth Pepin is an \u003cstrong>Associate Producer on QUEST\u003c/strong>, in addition to producing her own independent documentaries. Elizabeth has more than eleven years of production experience in the Bay Area and has won four regional Emmy Awards for her documentary film work. Her numerous projects include: Coastal Clash; One Winter Story; American Family Portraits; Bay Window: Hope on the Street and The Fillmore: The Hidden Cities of San Francisco.\r),(\r),(In addition to being a filmmaker, Elizabeth is a freelance photographer and a journalist. Her first book as an author, Harlem of the West: The San Francisco Fillmore Jazz Era was published by Chronicle Books in 2006. Elizabeth's photographs have appeared in numerous museums, galleries, newspapers, websites, and magazines, and in four books on women's surfing including, Sister Surfer and Surfing: Women of the Waves. She holds a B.A. in Journalism from San Francisco State University and was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area.",

"bio": "Josh Rosen was the TV Series Producer for QUEST from 2007-2009. He is a senior writer and producer specializing in documentary series and factual programming. Over the last decade he's produced a wide range of non-fiction hours, covering everything from Antarctic expeditions to Civil War history. With a background in feature film, Josh spent four years working with legendary German filmmaker \u003ca href=\"http://www.wernerherzog.com/\">Werner Herzog\u003c/a> on multiple documentaries, including the Emmy-nominated \"Little Dieter Needs to Fly,\" \"Wings of Hope,\" and \"Klaus Kinski: My Best Fiend.\" His more recent projects are currently airing on the \u003ca href=\"http://www.discovery.com\">Discovery Channel\u003c/a>, the National Geographic Channel, the History Channel, and worldwide through Granada Media and RDF Television.",

"bio": "Joan Johnson is an \u003cstrong>TV Associate Producer for QUEST\u003c/strong>. Joan got her start making science television back in 1998 when she joined the team at Sea Studios in Monterey, working as a researcher and production coordinator on \u003ca href=\"http://nationalgeographic.com/channel/\">National Geographic Television\u003c/a> projects for 4 years. Following that she pursued a career in features and network television down in Los Angeles, working on seven full length feature films, three television shows and several pilots. Joan graduated in 1993 from U.C. Santa Cruz with honors in Biology, and spent several years working as a marine biologist, naturalist and SCUBA guide. Originally from San Francisco, Joan is thrilled to be home and working on QUEST, fulfilling a long-term goal of combining her interests in science and entertainment.",

The story segments featured in each show are introduced by on-camera host, environmental journalist \u003ca href=\"http://science.kqed.org/quest/author/pssethi/\">Simran Sethi\u003c/a>. The series also includes half-hour specials that focus on a single topic.\r\n \r\nAll 2013-2014 television programs can be viewed online in their entirety or as individual segments by clicking on the titles and images listed below. They are buried there, along with the Bechtels, Stanyans, Powells, and Kaisers. Check out the cannons of the artillery unit that fought together in the Civil War. See the pyramids. Visit the sphinxes. You get extra credit if you find any scarab beetles. For the authentic graveyard experience, visit the un-endowed areas. Every time you see the grave of a 2-month old child that died in the 1800’s, I promise it will make you appreciate the wonders of Science, and what its done to lengthen our time on this wacky little island in space.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Don’t forget to stroll over to the Three Pools. On a warm spring day, wild Canadian geese might fly overhead, calling out their age-old cadence. Keep an eye out for rare, soft shell turtles or that infamous invasive species, red-eared sliders. You'll probably see a heron hunting and egrets mingling with ducks, in pastoral serenity.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>If you have time, go to the top of the hill and have a picnic with that gourmet lunch you remembered to pick up on Piedmont Ave. The view is marvelous. It’s also a perfect place for contemplating the hustle and bustle of a self-important, monkey civilization that is forgetting its past, even as it rushes forward into the most uncertain future it has ever faced. Will it survive the “War on Terror”, global warming, and processed cheese? There are so many questions of great importance to contemplate in solitude, or with friends.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>What I’ve told you doesn’t even scratch the surface of the depth of the glory of the Mountain View Cemetery.
