"bio": "Amanda joined KQED Science’s engagement team as a Senior Audience Engagement Strategist in the spring of 2019. She has helped craft messaging around wildfires, the coronavirus pandemic, climate change and many other stories. She has also brought KQED Science to new platforms such as Reddit’s Ask Me Anything series. Prior to joining KQED Science, Amanda spent seven years as an engagement producer with Forum, KQED’s daily live call-in show. She got her start in radio at KALW's weekly call in show, City Visions, before going on to an internship and stint at NPR's Talk of the Nation.\r\n\r\nPrior to journalism, Amanda taught English at Lowell High School. She's a native of Petaluma and currently lives under the \"South San Francisco the Industrial City\" sign in South City. "bio": "• I write and edit stories about how Silicon Valley power and policies shape everyday life in California. I’m also passionate about making Bay Area history and culture more accessible to a broad public. • I’ve been a journalist for most of my life, starting in high school with The Franklin Press in Los Angeles, where I grew up. While earning my first degree in English at UC Berkeley, I got my start in public radio at KALX-FM. After completing a second degree in journalism at Cal, I landed my first professional job at Marketplace, then moved on to KPCC (now LAist), and then KQED, where I hosted The California Report for more than seven years. • My reporting has appeared on NPR, The World, WBUR’s \u003ci>Here & Now\u003c/i>, and the BBC. I also guest host for KQED’s \u003ci>Forum\u003c/i>, as well as the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco. • I speak periodically on media, democracy and technology issues, and do voiceover work for documentaries and educational video projects. • Outside of the studio, you'll find me hiking Bay Area trails and whipping up Insta-ready meals in my kitchen. • I do not accept gifts, money, or favors from anyone connected to my reporting, I don't pay people for information, and I do not support or donate to political causes. • I strive to treat the people I report on with fairness, honesty, and respect. But this time, the civil disobedience went a little further. The center has also been called obsolete in this era of curbside recycling.\u003cbr>\n\u003c!--more-->\u003cbr>\nA report on \u003ca href=\"http://www.examiner.com/wine-in-san-francisco/is-tomorrow-the-last-chance-for-the-hanc-recycling-center-1\">Examiner.com\u003c/a> today asks whether today’s hearing is HANC’s last chance at a reprieve.\u003c/p>\n\u003cblockquote>\u003cp>Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi said the Board of Supervisors does not have the power to directly reverse the eviction because it came through the Recreation and Parks Department (RPD), which is the city’s landlord for places like the Golden Gate Park, where the recycling center is located. That department is under the mayor’s authority, so only San Francisco’s new mayor, Edwin Lee, or the RPD Commission can reverse the decision. He said that the race was well organized with \"plenty of mile markers and aid stations.\" Alemendarez says that he was at the finish when Hass collapsed:\u003c/p>\n\u003cblockquote>\u003cp>I came in right at 2 hours so saw him collapse. There were several people collapsed on the great highway right before Mr. Hass. Ambulances were trying to make their way there. I noticed people panicking as I got to the finish line and I worried that the EMTs were busy with other runners that to me seemed like were dehydrated and/or cramped. Mr. Hass was completely out.\u003c/p>\u003c/blockquote>\n\u003cp>Another runner, Edward, ran the race for the first time this year but has run other local races. He noted:\u003c/p>\n\u003cblockquote>\n\u003cdiv>... [the race was] a little crowded at the post race expo end, otherwise there was plenty of water, they had people telling you the split times at the mile markers and I was able to see my dad come in after I ran.\u003c/div>\n\u003c/blockquote>\n\u003cdiv>Terry, also of San Francisco, has done 147 marathons across 50 states. He said:\u003c/div>\n\u003cblockquote>\n\u003cdiv>... considering the size of the event, the organization was excellent. Although the day was much warmer than usual, none of the aid stations were out of water which often happens when the temperture [sic] spikes up. If there was a problem it was the extreme congestion after the finish line--all the finishers (5K and Half) pile into a small area where you can barely move through the crowd. I rather suspect that was a factor trying to get people to the downed runner.
