"bio": "• I write and edit stories about how Silicon Valley power and policies shape everyday life in California. I’m also passionate about making Bay Area history and culture more accessible to a broad public. • I’ve been a journalist for most of my life, starting in high school with The Franklin Press in Los Angeles, where I grew up. While earning my first degree in English at UC Berkeley, I got my start in public radio at KALX-FM. After completing a second degree in journalism at Cal, I landed my first professional job at Marketplace, then moved on to KPCC (now LAist), and then KQED, where I hosted The California Report for more than seven years. • My reporting has appeared on NPR, The World, WBUR’s \u003ci>Here & Now\u003c/i>, and the BBC. I also guest host for KQED’s \u003ci>Forum\u003c/i>, as well as the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco. • I speak periodically on media, democracy and technology issues, and do voiceover work for documentaries and educational video projects. • Outside of the studio, you'll find me hiking Bay Area trails and whipping up Insta-ready meals in my kitchen. • I do not accept gifts, money, or favors from anyone connected to my reporting, I don't pay people for information, and I do not support or donate to political causes. • I strive to treat the people I report on with fairness, honesty, and respect. I also recognize there are often multiple sides to a story and work to verify information through multiple sources and documentation. If I get something wrong, I correct it.",

But an analogy exists in that Daisey’s show delivers a message many in the crowd will simply not want to hear. \u003c/p>\n\u003cp>The show in large part is about working conditions Daisey discovered while visiting the Foxconn manufacturing plant in Shenzen, China. Number of suicides last year involving NHS workers jumping from NHS buildings: zero. Indian Railways has 1.6 million employees. Ever heard a story about a dozen of them hurling themselves into letter-sorting machines?\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>And yes, France Telecom did have a suicide epidemic last year. Guess what. Nobody went around saying that it was no big deal because it was still below the national average in France — instead the official explanation was that the suicides were caused by brutal management harassing workers. Lehan told me that cost-cutting has led to a slight fiscal improvement, but that more money is still going out than coming in.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>“We’re still somewhat desperate,” she says. “We’re in less of a panic but the situation is pretty grim.”\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Among other debts, the theater is in arrears to its landlord, whom Lehan called extremely generous, for several months rent. “We’re looking to stop the bleeding,” she said. “Major changes still need to happen.”\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>[ad fullwidth]\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Lehan cited a recent donation by musician \u003ca href=\"http://jojofiles.blogspot.com/\">Jonathan Richman\u003c/a>, who dedicated a portion of the proceeds from a recent show, as one of the ways that the community has responded.
