Californians Trek Across U.S. to View Eclipse
This morning, the whole nation will stop everything and look up to see a natural wonder: the first total solar eclipse to cross the country in nearly 40 years and the first to cross the country from coast to coast in nearly 100 years. Essentially, the Moon will get between us and the Sun and cast a lunar shadow across the Earth's surface along the route of the total eclipse. Sadly, that route does not travel over California so a lot of Californians have traveled to someplace along the route.
State lawmakers return to Sacramento today after a month-long summer recess. Governor Jerry Brown and Democratic leaders have promised to work on legislation to address the state’s affordable housing crisis, including laws to make it harder for some local governments to block new housing. This streamlining idea could test Democratic party unity.
