"bio": "Gabriel Peters-Lazaro researches, designs and produces digital media for innovative learning. He is the media design lead and an instructor in the Media Arts + Practice Division of the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California. He is a member of the MacArthur Foundation’s Media Activism and Participatory Politics (MAPP) project and is currently working to develop participatory media resources and curricula to support new forms of civic education and engagement for young people. In 2009, he helped create The Junior AV Club, an ongoing project that explores mindful media making and sharing as powerful practices of early childhood learning. As instructor of IML 500 – Digital Media Tools and Tactics, he helps graduate students from across the University harness the powers of video and new media as research tools to support their scholarly pursuits. He received his B.A. in Film Studies from UC Berkeley, completed his M.F.A in Film Directing and Production at UCLA and is a Ph.D. candidate in Media Arts + Practice. He is also an avid surfer.",

Along with Vine and Instagram video, it is one of a number of new platforms that aims to make video sharing faster and easier within a social media context. What’s interesting about Mixbit is it’s emphasis on video editing and the fact that it lets users create remixes and edits from each others content.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>You can download the app for free from the Apple app store. "content": "\u003cdiv class=\"post-body\">\u003cp>\u003cp>\u003cstrong>\u003cem>By Gabriel Peters-Lazaro\u003c/em>\u003c/strong>\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Interactive timelines are a great way to create dynamic projects exploring topics that lend themselves to a chronological presentation – topics could include a wide variety of content areas including history, of course, but also cultural and creative trends, personal timelines and more. \u003c/p>\n\u003cp>The basic idea of an interactive timeline is that you organize information along a timeline based on dates, and that the elements you include are clickable, so that you can create entries on the timeline that expand and can be explored in more depth, and that can include dynamic media in addition to text.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>There are a lot of different sites out there that can help you create interactive timelines, including \u003ca href=\"http://dipity.com/\">Dipity\u003c/a> and \u003ca href=\"http://www.tiki-toki.com/\">Tiki-Toki\u003c/a>. For this demo, I like to use \u003ca href=\"http://www.timetoast.com\">Timetoast\u003c/a> because it is straightforward and versatile, and offers a lot of functionality even with a basic free account. \u003c/p>\n\u003cp>So let’s get started learning how to create an interactive timeline using \u003ca href=\"http://www.timetoast.com\">Timetoast\u003c/a>.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>\u003c/p>\u003c/div>",

Street Literature is the result of young folks coming together to share the impact that the deaths of individuals such as Oscar Grant, Trayvon Martin, and Israel Hernandez have had on them. Tired of being ignored, silenced, judged, and criminalized, these youth decided to voice their thoughts on how they are viewed and treated in our larger society.
