And we focused on civic engagement and media literacy with a special Election 2024 project in the Youth Media Challenge where students called upon audiences to come together to create a better world for all. From record-breaking media submissions (over 4,000 – nearly doubling last year!) to national partnerships and teacher-tested resources, we’ve helped create space for young people to share how they see their world—and why it matters.\u003c/span>\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400\">What will you see in \u003ca href=\"https://cdn.kqed.org/wp-content/uploads/sites/38/2025/09/KQED-EducationSYR25-3.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">our report\u003c/a>? You’ll also see some data about the incredible skill growth students experienced after participating in the Youth Takeover program this year. We also celebrate an amazing seven years of Above the Noise while we transition our attention to developing a new show for youth with young people as co-producers alongside KQED full-time staff. This reality has tested even our most dedicated educators and taken a toll on youth mental health. Additionally, this intense and ever-changing landscape highlights the need for content that reflects the critical questions young people are asking about important issues. At KQED, we were honored to do our part—particularly by elevating the voices of diverse youth to a national audience. As a public media station, we seek to raise up traditionally underrepresented voices and lend our expertise to teach youth how to effectively share their perspectives. In doing so, we hope to expand KQED’s general audience’s understanding across generations and communities, and provide the opportunity for young people to share their voices in civic spaces through public media. \u003c/span>\u003c/p>\n\u003ch4>\u003ca href=\"https://learn.kqed.org/challenges/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">KQED Youth Media Challenges\u003c/a>\u003c/h4>\n\u003cp>\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400\">One of the biggest highlights of the school year was our inaugural Election 2020 Youth Media Challenge. That expanded to five additional Challenge topics—from STEM to Dance—and a public, online showcase of student media projects from across the country. (In fall of 2021, we added two more Challenges: Rethink School with \u003c/span>\u003ci>\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400\">MindShift \u003c/span>\u003c/i>\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400\">and Science Documentary.) At KQED, we were honored to do our part—particularly by elevating the voices of diverse youth to a national audience. As a public media station, we seek to raise up traditionally underrepresented voices and lend our expertise to teach youth how to effectively share their perspectives. In doing so, we hope to expand KQED’s general audience’s understanding across generations and communities, and provide the opportunity for young people to share their voices in civic spaces through public media. \u003c/span>\u003c/p>\n\u003ch4>\u003ca href=\"https://learn.kqed.org/challenges/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">KQED Youth Media Challenges\u003c/a>\u003c/h4>\n\u003cp>\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400\">One of the biggest highlights of the school year was our inaugural Election 2020 Youth Media Challenge. That expanded to five additional Challenge topics—from STEM to Dance—and a public, online showcase of student media projects from across the country. (In fall of 2021, we added two more Challenges: Rethink School with \u003c/span>\u003ci>\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400\">MindShift \u003c/span>\u003c/i>\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400\">and Science Documentary.)
