How It Works
- Schedule an Appointment Fill out the interest form below to connect with a Clars Auctions specialist, who will schedule a time to evaluate your item or items.
- Receive an Auction Estimate A Clars specialist will examine the property and provide an estimated value, along with an explanation of the potential auction process and the appropriate sale category.
- Decide Whether to Consign If you agree with the valuation and wish to proceed, your item can be consigned to Clars Auctions. The minimum estimated value for participation in this program is $400 per item.
- Clars Handles the Auction Clars determines the most appropriate auction for your property and manages the sale through its standard auction process.
- Proceeds Benefit KQED Once the item sells, the net sale proceeds (after Clars Auctions’ 10% fee) are directed to KQED as a charitable cash gift.
- Receive Charitable Acknowledgment KQED provides a charitable gift acknowledgment recognizing your contribution.
FAQs
Do I have to consign my item once I get a valuation?
No. You make the final decision to consign only after receiving Clars’ valuation and reviewing the proposed auction process.
Who owns my property during the process?
Your property remains yours throughout the process until it sells at auction.
Is there a minimum value to participate?
Yes. The minimum estimated value for participation in this program is $400 per item.
Can I arrange to donate a piece through my estate instead of donating it now?
Yes. Clars can work with you at any time and will keep your file on record for a future donation.
Can someone come to my home to appraise an item?
Yes. Clars can send an appraiser to your home for an initial assessment. Keep in mind that the valuation reflects market value at the time of the assessment, so if the donation happens years later, the value may have changed, similar to real estate
