SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Whether you’re a politico, science nerd, sports lover, romantic, or have a sweet tooth, the new KQED Live fall schedule has an event for you. Bringing KQED’s journalism and programming to life (mostly) on stage at KQED’s newly refurbished headquarters, KQED Live is the Bay Area’s newest, most eclectically entertaining and informative live event series.

Podcast & Radio Onstage
San Francisco Mayor London Breed kicks off the fall KQED Live schedule on October 5 with a conversation with Political Breakdown hosts Marisa Lagos and Scott Shafer that will explore the state of the city and her initiatives for issues such as public safety and economic development. 

Games & Trivia 
Continuing the election season theme, Ballots and Brews, KQED’s election season tradition, returns on October 20. Grab a  pint and test your knowledge about the propositions and races on this year’s ballot with our political experts. If you prefer fauna to filibusters, join us on November 1 as the California Academy of Science and Deep Look (KQED/PBS) team up for a challenging night featuring local flora trivia. And in December Bay Area singles can look for love as part of the second round of KQED Live's dating game (date TBD) hosted by comedian Dahya Lakshminarayanan. 

In Dialogue
KQED hosts the bestselling author Margaret Wilkerson Sexton (The Revisioners and A Kind of Freedom) in The Commons on October 7 for a conversation with Forum host Mina Kim to discuss her latest novel On the Rooftop. On October 11, experience the work of Bay Area creatives and activists using technology to urge climate action with Art & Tech in a Warming World with The New York Times. On October 13, San Jose voters will meet the candidates in a hotly contested mayoral race at the San Jose Mayoral Candidates Forum, hosted offsite at the Mexican Heritage Plaza in San Jose.

Music, Storytelling, Arts and Food
Baruch Porras-Hernandez brings his dynamic cabaret full of queer Latinx performers to The Commons for ¿Dónde Esta Mi Gente? @Litcrawl on October 22. From there, consider joining a beautiful annual ritual honoring the dead. Celebrate Dia de los Muertos on October 26 with Living Altars: Dia de los Muertos in San Francisco. For a little dancing and singing, join Alan Cumming, the Tony Award-winning star of Cabaret and The Good Wife, as he is joined by All Things Considered host Ari Shapiro for Och & Oy! A Considered Cabaret on November 6 at the Sydney Goldstein Theater.

On November 17, artist and Diamond Wave Artistic & Executive Director Vin Seaman brings us THEYFRIEND, a dazzling showcase of storytelling and performance that uplifts nonbinary artists. Celebrate the Filipino American experience with rapper Ruby Ibarra and artists from SoMa’s Filipino arts hub Balay Kreative for an evening of storytelling, music and art. Finally, Bay Area-based Miko Marks takes the stage for a concert and conversation with Rightnowish host Pendarvis Harshaw on December 16.

Screenings
Move over Super Bowl. The biggest winter sporting event of the year will take place early in the morning and half way across the globe. Rise and shine with fellow Bay Area footie fans to watch some of your favorite futbolistas put everything on the line in the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar. Wear PJs to this viewing party underneath KQED Live’s massive state-of-the-art screen.

San Francisco Mayor London Breed

San Francisco Mayor London Breed joins the hosts of KQED's Political Breakdown onstage to discuss the state of the city and her initiatives for public safety and economic development, the impact of her appointments for officials recalled by voters and how November’s elections may affect her agenda for the year ahead and more.

A Jazzy Evening with Author Margaret Wilkerson Sexton co-hosted by Litquake

San Francisco's Litquake literary festival co-hosts an evening with the bestselling author of The Revisioners and A Kind of Freedom. Margaret Wilkerson Sexton joins Forum host Mina Kim to discuss Sexton's new novel On the Rooftop. The book is about a mother whose dream of musical stardom for her daughters collides with their own ambition--set against the backdrop of San Francisco's gentrifying Fillmore neighborhood in the 1950s. Featuring live songs from the era performed by San Francisco legend Kim Nalley.

Art & Tech in a Warming World with The New York Times

From global-warming models rendered as haunting musical compositions to augmented-reality games designed to confront us with the disparate impacts of climate change for those most vulnerable, art and technology are converging in the face of our escalating climate emergency. Join KQED Live and The New York Times to experience the work of Bay Area creatives deploying technology to reflect the immediacy of the crisis and inspire action.

San Jose Mayoral Candidates Forum
October 13 | 7PM | Free | The Pavilion at the Mexican Heritage Plaza, San Jose
What is at stake for the people of San Jose as they elect a new mayor in November? KQED and Univision present candidates Cindy Chavez and Matt Mahan to a bilingual (Spanish/English) forum to discuss the issues they would face as mayor and the solutions they would pursue if elected.

Ballots & Brews
October 20 | 7PM | $10
Come tap the keg and tap the minds of our political experts! Whether you want to take notes or take home some swag, we’ve got you covered with simple explainers and political trivia hosted by KQED personalities. Get the info you need about this year’s ballot measures or kick back and talk shop with other civically minded folks at this casual event in our top-floor gathering space. When you leave, you’ll be ready to make informed decisions when you vote by mail or in person.

Host Baruch Porras-Hernandez brings his dynamic cabaret full of queer Latinx performers celebrating community, identity, and experiences through poetry, comedy and music to this year's Litcrawl (part of San Francisco’s Litquake literary festival).

Living Altars: Dia de los Muertos in San Francisco

Rituals honoring the dead can be traced through history as an important rite of passage. Celebrate and learn how the Mission District has taken this tradition and made it its own with an evening of altar-making and poetry commissioned by the Marigold Project and songs by Mariposas Del Alma.

Biodiversity Trivia Night with California Academy of Sciences & Deep Look

Hosted by artist and Diamond Wave Artistic & Executive Director Vin Seaman, THEYFRIEND is a dazzling showcase of storytelling and performance that uplifts nonbinary artists, featuring new works by performer Rawiyah Tariq, multimedia performance artist Sharmi Basu and musician Tyler Holmes.

DECEMBER
Filipinx Arts Night with Ruby Ibarra and Balay Kreative

Rapper Ruby Ibarra joins a slate of artists from Balay Kreative--SoMa's Filipino arts hub--for an eclectic night of storytelling and performance, hosted by The Bay's Ericka Cruz Guevarra. Navigating a history of colonization and government corruption, Filipinos searching for economic opportunity put down roots in the Bay Area. Join us for this celebration of the local Filipino American experience forged through music, writing and art.

Miko Marks in Concert
December 16 | 7PM | $20
In this concert and interview with Rightnowish host Pendarvis Harshaw, Bay Area-based Miko Marks shows how she’s forged her art and identity as a Black woman in the white- and male-dominated country music industry. We’ll also be sure to cover her love of roller-skating and how she’s captured the fantastic feeling of skating at Lake Merritt in her music.

World Cup Final Viewing Party
December 18 | 7AM | Free
Goooooal! Rise before the sun to see your favorite futbolistas put everything on the line in the World Cup final. We’re opening our lobby and firing up the big screen to watch the final match live from Qatar. Join us for a nail-biting, cheer-inducing, (penalty kicking?) good time. Bring your own food and drink or enjoy light refreshments and breakfast bites on us to get you through the morning.

Dating with Dhaya: KQED Dating Game and Singles Night

Is it hard to find love these days? You bet your apps it is! KQED wants to help. We’re killing two love birds with one stone. Join us for an all-original dating game live on stage hosted by comedian Dahya Lakshminarayanan, where one special KQED fan will be the center of attention as you, the audience help them pick a date from the contestants on hand. After the show, mingle with fellow public media nerds and maybe you’ll get lucky … in love!
