When tragedy strikes, as it did over the weekend in Oakland, a feeling of helplessness can take hold. But eventually we pick ourselves up, find ways in which we can help, and seek out spaces where we can collectively mourn and be there for each other. Here are some benefits, vigils and other events for those affected by the Oakland warehouse fire happening around the Bay Area:

Light Vigil for 'Ghost Ship'
Monday, Dec. 5, 2016 at 8pm
Lake Merritt Pergola (North east corner of the lake)

Bring flameless candles, glow sticks, flashlights, or other types of light. For those who can't attend, there will be a live feed on Facebook.

Oakland Fire Vigil and Call for Safe Spaces for Trans Folk
Monday, Dec. 5, 2016 from 5:30pm to 7pm
Harvey Milk Plaza (2401 Market St, San Francisco, CA)

A candlelight vigil in the Castro to mourn the victims and to raise awareness around the unique issues facing trans victims of the fire. Speakers include the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Tracy Garza, the Rev. Cameron Partridge, and more.

In Honor of Our Friends: The Oakland Queer + Trans Open Mic #OaklandGhostShipFire
Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm
440 Grand Ave, Oakland, CA

SPECTRUM Queer Media will provide sanctuary and celebrate the victims' lives through music, poetry, visual art, films, stories, and more. Donations will go to the Fire Relief Fund.

Benefit for Ghost Ship: Cables & Arms, Belle Reve, Twin Screw Steamer

San Francisco punks eager to do anything they can to support their friends and community in Oakland. All proceeds and donations will be going to the Fire Relief Fund.


Oakland Fire Benefit: Kimya Dawson, Torrey Pines, Johnny Physical
Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016 at 8pm
Starline Social Club (2236 Martin Luther King Jr Way, Oakland, CA)

Kimya Dawson, who wrote an impassioned post about the need for artists' spaces, will perform. Torrey Pines, a stop-motion queer punk coming-of-age story by director Clyde Petersen, will be screened with a live score by the band Your Heart Breaks. Johnny Physical Lives, a documentary by Joshua Neuman about rock 'n' roll and the passing of his brother, will also screen.

Yours Truly: A benefit for Ghost Ship fire victims
Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016 from 7pm to 2am

Hard French and El Rio "invite you to gather, embrace, share, be, dance, sing or just get some air with family, while we honor our fallen primos in Oakland." Featuring DJ sets from DJ Carnita, Brown Amy,
Vin Sol, and Josh Cheon, and music from Thao, Tender Forever, Scott Moore, and more. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the Fire Relief Fund.

A Housepitality Moment of Silence for Ghost Ship victims

Housepitality SF (1192 Folsom St, San Francisco, CA)
The Housepitality crew lost some of their own and will use this event as a way of honoring those people and the other victims. Justin Long of Circling Vultures, Secret Studio, Justin Anastasi and Rachel Aiello will provide entertainment. Proceeds will go to victims' families.

Ghost Ship Benefit: undō/Void Omnia/Akatharsia/Yarrow
Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016 from 8pm to midnight
The Golden Bull (412 14th St, Oakland, CA)
Music from undō, Void Omnia, Akatharsia, Yarrow , and DJ HARRY POTES. 100% of the door money will go to the rent fund for the victims.

For Oakland: Public Candlelight, Interfaith Prayer & Taize Vigil
Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016 from 7pm to 8pm
Skyline Community Church United Church of Christ (12540 Skyline Blvd, Oakland, CA)
Skyline Church in Oakland is holding an interfaith candlelight music and prayer vigil. Voluntary donations will go to support the relief efforts for those impacted by the fire.

Benefit for Ghost Ship at the Golden Bull
Thursday, Dec. 8, 2016 at 8pm
Golden Bull (412 14th St, Oakland, CA)

Performances by Maya Songbird, Elrond, Collin Gorman Weiland, Denney Joints and more live acts and DJs TBA. According to organizers, all funds go to the YouCaring fundraiser.

Ghost Ship Arts Collective - Benefit Party

A fundraiser to raise money for the victims' families. DJs who have donated their time include Sychosis, Ruby Valeros & Nick Garcia, Cristoffer Zuniga, Papa Lu, Vedda, and more.

Ghost Ship Benefit with Shannon and the Clams
Friday, Dec. 9, 2016 from 7pm to 1am
Eli's Mile High Club (3629 Martin Luther King Jr Way, Oakland, CA)
Music by Shannon and the Clams, Diesel Dudes, Preening, and more. All proceeds will go to the Fire Relief Fund and the Safety Fund for Oakland Art and Community Spaces.

AFC Presents: A concert to support the victims of the Oakland Fire
Friday, Dec. 9, 2016 from 6:30pm - midnight
The Arlene Francis Center (99 6th St, Santa Rosa, CA)

The all-ages DIY space, which once served as a flour warehouse, will host five hours of live music from Joshua James Jackson, AttacrobatRagsThe IllumignarlyHordersSecret Cat, and Living in the 90's.

The Vile Augury / Suicide Queen / Striplicker

Oakland Fire Benefit: HFHW, Tamborays, The Easies

Day 1 of Amnesia's mini festival "Soundcheck" will feature music from Hot Flash Heat Wave, The Tambo Rays, and The Easies. Donations taken at the door will benefit the Fire Relief Fund.

Oakland City Chorus Memorial Concert

The Oakland City Chorus will perform Requiem by Gabriel Faure and Litanies à la Vierge Noire by Francis Poulenc with organist Jonathan Dimmock.

2nd Friday Reception and Fundraiser

An open studio event with participation from Faultline ArtSpace, Float Gallery, Ford Street Studios, Gray Loft Gallery, and Jingletown Art Studios and Gallery. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Fire Relief Fund.

Friday Nights @ OMCA: Ghost Ship Tribute

A candlelight walk organized by the Vallejo Arts Alliance to commemorate the artists who died in the Ghost Ship Fire. Music by DW Edwards and Lighting Up the Soul.

AYLI Family memorial for Cherushii, Amanda Allen, and Nackt

An artist roundtable discussion on "the importance of artists and artist-run spaces and what is required to nurture and stabilize our community after the tragic Ghost Ship fire." The event is free. (Also of note, the gallery will extend its hours on Dec. 11 to provide a space for reflection and healing. Hot cocoa and spiced cider will be served.)

Oakland Fire Relief Benefit: MOBY (DJ Set) + MORE
Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016 from 8pm to 2am

MOBY and other special guests will DJ. Minimum donation is $20. Proceeds will go to the Gray Area Foundation for the Arts Oakland Fire Fund.

Oakland Underground United: a Benefit for the Ghost Ship Fires

A fundraiser featuring performances by Zack Bateman and The Coal Minds, Blatherskite, Toxic Shock Syndrome, Georgia Sam, Mykee Ramen, and LunaSol Music. Sliding scale from $5 to whatever you can spare. Proceeds will benefit the Fire Relief Fund.

Musical Reflections of 2016
Sunday, Dec. 18 from 11am to 3pm
Chapel of the Chimes (4499 Piedmont Ave, Oakland, CA)
A free four-hour musical gathering in honor of the victims. Performers donating their services and talents include Kitka, the Temple of Light Georgian Community Choir, Sharmi Basu, the William Winant Percussion Group, the Cardew Choir, and many more.
