I've always wanted to take a road trip across America. Due to a long history of getting pulled over for dumb stuff and a general fear of driving, it's never happened. So I've lived vicariously through books, hitching a ride with Jack Kerouac or piggy backing along with Cheryl Strayed on toe-nail-murdering hiking trails.

Atlas Obscura took this interest in American wanderlust and created something out of it: a map charting the courses described in titles like On the Road, WildZen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance and The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. Check out their interactive map. It might be enough to inspire you to hit the open road or at least read about it.
