"bio": "Amanda joined KQED Science’s engagement team as a Senior Audience Engagement Strategist in the spring of 2019. She has helped craft messaging around wildfires, the coronavirus pandemic, climate change and many other stories. She has also brought KQED Science to new platforms such as Reddit’s Ask Me Anything series. Prior to joining KQED Science, Amanda spent seven years as an engagement producer with Forum, KQED’s daily live call-in show. She got her start in radio at KALW's weekly call in show, City Visions, before going on to an internship and stint at NPR's Talk of the Nation.\r\n\r\nPrior to journalism, Amanda taught English at Lowell High School. She's a native of Petaluma and currently lives under the \"South San Francisco the Industrial City\" sign in South City. And if you watch what we’ve seen frame by frame and different angles, he does not take the path to the plate to try to score, he… goes after buster where its right shoulder on right shoulder, and to me that’s malicious.”\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>When asked about Posey’s statement that he didn’t want to talk to Cousins, Sabean said, “I don’t blame the kid. Why not be hard-nosed? Naturally, he begs to differ with the GM:\u003c/p>\n\u003cblockquote>\u003cp>The Marlins did not play Thursday, but Cousins’ agent said that while he respects Sabean, he believes the GM is 100 percent wrong.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>“What Cousins did was not malicious,” Sosnick said. “A statement that anyone makes implying that he did something on purpose to be hurtful or malicious to Posey is untrue. Those people are misinformed. You can’t determine on a replay if there was a sliding lane for him to get into. It’s impossible.”\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Sosnick said no player ever tried harder than Cousins to reach out to a player he injured.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>The agent, who also represents Freddy Sanchez, said the hit was not illegal and the right thing to do in a close game. If the same situation arose, Sosnick said, “I would hope he’d make the same play, and he would hope that nothing would happen to Posey at all.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>“I’d say Brian’s opinion is in the vast minority in baseball. I can understand the disappointment that Posey is out. I’m disappointed. My family is disappointed and I don’t even represent him. It had everything --a thrilling 9th inning comeback, \u003ca href=\"http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2011/05/26/SPIB1JL48H.DTL\" target=\"_blank\">bench player heroics\u003c/a> -- even the presence of an \u003ca href=\"http://www.nbcbayarea.com/blogs/the-cove/Wilson-Ross-Help-One-Great-Kid-120219234.html\" target=\"_blank\">Internet phenom\u003c/a>.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>The finale, however, was nothing short of tragic: In the 12th, \u003ca href=\"http://ww2.kqed.org/news/2011/05/26/buster-posey-leg/\" target=\"_blank\">Scott Cousins crashed into Buster Posey\u003c/a> at home plate to score the winning run. Watching the \u003ca href=\"http://ww2.kqed.org/news/2011/05/26/buster-posey-leg/\">\u003cstrong>play\u003c/strong>\u003c/a> from the stands, a series of images reminiscent of a \u003ca href=\"http://www.poets.org/viewmedia.php/prmMID/15537\" target=\"_blank\">William Carlos Williams\u003c/a> poem flashed by:\u003c/p>\n\u003cblockquote>\u003cp>fly ball\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>throw to the plate\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>he’s out!\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>no, ball's lose!\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>safe.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Buster motionless. Not getting up.\u003c/p>\u003c/blockquote>\n\u003cp>\u003c!--more-->\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Up to then, the blog post I’d been writing in my head had a much happier theme: Bay Area baseball is beautiful. Even in the cheap seats, we were ecstatic, my mom regaling me with tales of Juan Marichal, his \u003ca href=\"http://bats.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/05/07/30-seconds-with-juan-marichal\" target=\"_blank\">16 inning duel\u003c/a> with Warren Spahn, his \u003ca href=\"http://espn.go.com/page2/s/list/basebrawl.htm\" target=\"_blank\">infamous attack\u003c/a> on John Roseboro. When the Giants tied it up in the bottom of the ninth, I was just about beside myself with joy. The boys were performing miraculously, and I was surrounded by a typically raucous and motley Bay Area crowd -- guys wearing camoflauge and workboots, hipsters sporting chic glasses, kids with fake beards. It was one of those rare I-love-this-sport, I-love-my-city, life-is-beautiful moments. (All without the benefit of alcohol, too.)\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>[ad fullwidth]\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>And then it happened: the fly ball, the bullet home, Buster carried off . As minutes passed without Posey getting up, a brooding silence descended in the stands.
