"bio": "Amanda joined KQED Science’s engagement team as a Senior Audience Engagement Strategist in the spring of 2019. She has helped craft messaging around wildfires, the coronavirus pandemic, climate change and many other stories. She has also brought KQED Science to new platforms such as Reddit’s Ask Me Anything series. Prior to joining KQED Science, Amanda spent seven years as an engagement producer with Forum, KQED’s daily live call-in show. She got her start in radio at KALW's weekly call in show, City Visions, before going on to an internship and stint at NPR's Talk of the Nation.\r\n\r\nPrior to journalism, Amanda taught English at Lowell High School. She's a native of Petaluma and currently lives under the \"South San Francisco the Industrial City\" sign in South City. We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the start tomorrow in Squaw Valley.”\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>As the race was being cancelled, three-time Amgen Tour of California champion Levi Leipheimer addressed the crowd from the sign-in stage and said:\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>“The riders discussed as a group and we just don’t feel comfortable riding knowing what can happen, especially in light of what happened last Monday. We still have a full week of racing ahead of us, so we want to make sure everyone is healthy. With the weather conditions the way they are, racing today is just not possible. The revised 1:15 p.m. start time came and went, rumors went whirling through the start area and Internets that many riders wanted no part of the Bicycles on Ice extravaganza that awaited them, and the stage was canceled. Translation of the foregoing: They beat the \u003ca href=\"http://redwings.nhl.com/\" target=\"_blank\">Detroit Red Wings \u003c/a>3-2 in Game Seven of their NHL Stanley Cup Western Conference semi-final series. \u003c/p>\n\u003cp>The victory came after a furious closing 90 seconds during which the desperate Wings--who had come back from a 3-0 deficit in the series to force tonight's game--pulled their goalie and brought a sixth skater into the game to try to tie the score and send the contest into overtime. They almost did when Pavel Datsyuk unleashed a slapshot on Sharks goalie Antti Niemi with about 30 seconds left. The puck ricocheted off NIemi's mask and neck before he gloved it and hung on.\u003c/p>\n\u003cp>Maybe the \"Sharks Win!\" deadline is a little premature. They still need to get past the \u003ca href=\"http://canucks.nhl.com/\" target=\"_blank\">Vancouver Canucks \u003c/a>and whoever will represent the league's Eastern Conference to win hockey's holy grail, the Stanley Cup. That's eight more wins, Sharks fans.
