Panel Hears Testimony on Methyl Iodide
Researchers who've studied methyl iodide, a fumigant used in strawberry fields outside of California, testified before a state Senate hearing in Sacramento yesterday. The scientists told lawmakers that state regulators who want to approve methyl iodide's use here are giving the go-ahead to a toxic pesticide.
Kettleman City Residents Testify to Health Problems
The California Latino Legislative Caucus held a field hearing last night in Kettleman City. State and federal officials have been investigating an outbreak of birth defects and infant deaths in the small farming town, which is located next to the largest hazardous waste landfill in the West.
