Midnight was the deadline for the secretary of state to certify measures for the November ballot, and 10 have made the cut. They range from redistricting to a bid to suspend the state's effort to control greenhouse gases, to the one that's most likely to drive turnout up: legalizing non-medicinal marijuana.
Speech Puts Spotlight on Private Foundations at Public Universities
Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin's appearance at a fundraiser for the California State University at Stanislaus tonight has sparked controversy for months. The nonprofit foundation that's sponsoring Palin's appearance claims to be a separate entity from the university, and thus not required to disclose speakers' fees.
