This weekend the Kern County town Taft kicks off a huge celebration of its hundred year anniversary. Taft is tucked into the far southwestern corner of California's fertile Central Valley. Unlike nearby towns with pistachio orchards and vineyards, however, Taft is packed with oil wells and pipelines.
