U.S. Supreme Court Hears Arguments on Calif. Prison Overcrowding
The U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments yesterday on a ruling by federal judges in California ordering the state to reduce its prison population. Plaintiffs argued massive overcrowding is directly to blame for unconstitutionally poor health care in California prisons.
Citizen's Redistricting Commission Sworn In
For the first time ever, California's political maps are going to be drawn by citizens, not politicians or judges. The first eight members of the state's new Citizens Redistricting Commission were officially sworn in yesterday.
