Japan's earthquake and tsunami are a reminder that in times of crisis, many people still turn to the radio for information, especially in rural parts of California. In general, rural stations are more dependent on government funding than those in more urban areas. Now, as Congress threatens to eliminate funding for public broadcasting, even big market stations are concerned about taking a hit.
