Feds Launch Gang Trial in San Francisco
Among the street gangs that operate in California, the Mara Salvatrucha -- aka MS-13 -- are considered particularly fearsome. The federal government has been trying to crack down on the gang in recent years, and yesterday, launched their opening salvo in federal court in San Francisco against seven people it claims engaged in a racketeering conspiracy.

Assembly Committee to Consider Immigration Bill
Today in Sacramento the state Assembly Judiciary Committee takes up a proposal modeled after Arizona's controversial immigration law. There's a lot of enthusiastic support for the California measure among Tea Party advocates, but the bill faces an uphill climb in the Legislature.
