Suit Alleges Discrimination In Prison Lockdowns
The non-profit Prison Law Office has filed a federal class action lawsuit against the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. The suit alleges the agency is violating the U.S. Constitution with its repeated use of racially segregated lockdowns that punish all members of a particular racial group when an incident occurs.
State to Free Up Money for School Seismic Safety
State regulators say they'll make it easier for public schools to access seismic retrofit funds. The move will free up tens of millions of dollars to retrofit older schools across California that are considered especially vulnerable in a strong quake.
