Earlier this month, the Recording Academy announced a restructuring of its Grammy Award categories. The result eliminated over 25 awards, including Hawaiian, Zydeco and Latin Jazz. The loss of that last category has outraged many in California's vibrant Latin jazz community, especially in the Bay Area.
