Bill Would Let Localities Vote for Extra Taxes
A bill before the state Legislature would allow some taxes that are now the same in every locality to be raised one community at a time. Senate leader Darrell Steinberg is the author of the legislation. It would allow local voters to impose extra income taxes, vehicle taxes and even alcohol or oil production taxes.
