Governor Says No To Budget Deal
Jerry Brown promised in his campaign for governor last year to not balance the state's books with unrealistic assumptions -- what some would call "gimmicks." On Thursday, he decided the budget sent to him less than 24 hours earlier didn't pass the smell test, and he vetoed it. It's the first gubernatorial veto of a state budget in records dating back to 1901. And it's not sitting so well with his fellow Democrats.

More than five months after State Supreme Court Justice Carlos Moreno announced his retirement from the bench, Governor Jerry Brown has yet to appoint his replacement. The court's chief justice, Tani Cantil-Sakauye, had been on the job just three days when Justice Moreno announced he was leaving.
