California Budget Passed, Now the Lawsuits
The Legislature passed a budget last night that bypassed Republicans with a package of steep cuts that hit schools, courts, law enforcement and parks hard. Like many state budgets before it, this one also includes hopeful income estimates and creative shifting of revenue streams to make the whole thing pencil out. That last strategy opens the door to lawsuits.
New Budget Tough on Higher Education, K-12 Spared for Now
Thanks to the state budget deal, students at UC and Cal State schools will get slammed with tuition hikes. K-12 has the same level of funding as last year, but with some interesting accounting for Proposition 98 monies.
