Redevelopment Battle Heads to Court
Local redevelopment agencies are taking their fight with the governor and the Legislature directly to the state Supreme Court. On Monday, they filed a lawsuit to block the provision of the state budget that takes redevelopment dollars to balance the state's newly crafted budget.
Schools Prepare to Implement FAIR Act
Last week Governor Jerry Brown signed the FAIR Act, which requires the state to include the contributions of gay and lesbian people in history textbooks. Although the state's budget woes mean few schools will be buying new books any time soon, the new law has educators pondering how to incorporate LGBT history into the curriculum.
