Schools May Get New Yardstick for Measuring Success
A bill awaiting Governor Brown's signature by Senator Darrell Steinberg of Sacramento would expand the criteria for rating California schools. The new system would supplement the current test scores with metrics on graduation rates and whether students are ready for college and the workplace.

Taking HIV Testing to the Streets
The Center for Disease Control says 20 percent of Americans with HIV don't know they're infected, and those people are responsible for about half of all new infections. A new effort in San Diego is trying to reduce those numbers by making HIV testing more widespread.
