The killing of suspected schizophrenic Aaron Bassler by police -- after he allegedly murdered two people -- and another incident in Orange County in which police killed a schizophrenic homeless man have prompted more attention to "Laura's Law." The measure permits courts to order outpatient treatment for mentally ill people under certain circumstances. So far, only one California county has authorized use of the law, although it was enacted nearly 10 years ago.
