49ers Lose in Overtime
After hours of screaming, the city of San Francisco fell silent last night when the 49ers lost against the Giants in overtime. At the Kezar Pub in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, the crowd watched in disbelief as Lawrence Tynes kicked the field goal that clinched the Giants' bid for the Super Bowl.
Fresno County Union Calls for Strike
It could be tough to get a marriage license or visit a public health clinic in Fresno today. The Service Employees International Union has called a three-day walkout protesting a recent decision by the county to cut union workers' pay by at least 9 percent. As many as 4,000 county workers could go on strike.
Apartment Dwellers Still Subject to Secondhand Smoke
In San Diego, it's illegal to smoke on the beach, at a Padres baseball game and in a public park. When you add in statewide restrictions on smoking in bars, restaurants and workplaces, California has some of the nation's toughest anti-smoking laws. But people who live in apartment buildings are left largely unprotected against exposure to secondhand smoke.
