LA Backpedaling On Truancy Policy
Schools in Los Angeles face big struggles with student attendance. In some districts truancy rates are above 50 percent. For the last several years, the city has taken a hard-line approach, conducting police sweeps around campuses and issuing tickets with hefty fines to truants and even tardy students. But today, the L.A. City Council is expected to change that approach.
