Manufacturer Pulls Controversial Pesticide
The makers of methyl iodide, a controversial chemical that state pesticide regulators approved for use in California strawberry fields, now says it's suspending sales of the product in the U.S. The decision comes after a long battle over whether it's safe for farmworkers to be exposed to the substance.
Kern County: Expulsion Capital of California
In the last school year, Kern County schools were four times more likely to expel a student than any other county in California. The raw number of students expelled in Kern was bigger than the number expelled in Los Angeles, which has a student body nine times the size. Expulsions and suspensions are particularly high among students of color.
