The longtime head of the California Coastal Commission died Sunday at age 69. Peter Douglas lost a battle with lung cancer after a lifetime of battles to preserve the wildness of the California coast. Douglas co-authored a couple of landmark laws, including the one that created the Coastal Commission. He liked to say, "The coast is never saved. It's always being saved."
