Horse racing in California has suffered lately from low attendance, drugging scandals and the exposure of a dismal safety record. Then, an unlikely group of southern California trainers, a Mexican jockey and a horse nearly overlooked at auction combined to make a bid for the first Triple Crown in 34 years. [Note: After this program was aired, the horse, "I'll Have Another", was scratched due to a leg injury, and subsequently was retired from racing.]
