The California Coastal Commission has denied a request from PG&E for underwater seismic testing around the Diablo Canyon nuclear plant. The utility wants to use air guns to shoot high-decibel soundwaves deep into the ocean floor, which might provide data about underwater fault lines. But there are concerns the sound would hurt marine mammals.
