Governor to UC Regents: Keep Tuition Down
California Governor Jerry Brown on Wednesday asked the University of California regents to hold the line on tuition by finding creative ways to cut costs. The regents conclude the three-day meeting Thursday.

Flame Retardants Linked to Children's Health Issues
A new study finds one class of flame retardants -- chemicals used to make furniture and electronics more fire-resistant -- are linked to lower IQs and poorer coordination in children. The chemicals known as PBDEs have been phased out of new products, but many older items are still in homes.

Underwater Sound Testing Permit Denied
The California Coastal Commission has denied a request from PG&E for underwater seismic testing around the Diablo Canyon nuclear plant. The utility wants to use air guns to shoot high-decibel soundwaves deep into the ocean floor, which might provide data about underwater fault lines. But there are concerns the sound would hurt marine mammals.
