Statewide results for California's yearly Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) tests show a slight drop in students' math and English scores for the first time in nearly a decade. Only about half of kids test at grade level in those subjects. But the STAR tests are being retired -- and many teachers are saying "good riddance."
