Outgoing UC President Looks Back on His Tenure
UC President Mark Yudof will step down at the end of the month. Janet Napolitano will take the helm of the UC system after five years of steep budget cuts, soaring tuition and more than a little controversy over compensation packages for UC executives, including Yudof. He came from the University of Texas, the first outsider chosen to lead UC in more than a century. Yudof started in 2008, inheriting a university beset by financial scandals and allegations of mismanagement. Host Scott Shafer sits down with Yudof in his office in downtown Oakland.

Refinery's Oil Transport Plan Raises Safety Concerns in Bay Area
When it comes to oil production, California is no Texas. But the Golden State is actually third among states extracting crude oil from the ground -- just behind the Lone Star State and North Dakota. Valero, the nation's largest refiner of oil, now wants to start using trains to bring that crude oil to its refinery in the San Francisco Bay Area. And that's raising concerns about safety and air pollution in the East Bay city of Benicia.
Exhibit Explores Junipero Serra's Life, 300 Years Later
If you grew up in California, you probably know something about Father Junipero Serra, who created the missions dotting the California coast. This is the 300th anniversary of the Spanish missionary's birth -- and it's being marked with an ambitious exhibit at the Huntington Library near Pasadena. The exhibit reveals a lot about the man, but also about the native people who were here long before Serra's arrival.
