Number of Undocumented Immigrants Levels Off
Researchers at the Pew Research Center examined U.S. Census numbers in six states with the largest numbers of undocumented people. California tops that list with about 2.5 million, a pretty big drop from 2007 when about 2.8 million unauthorized residents lived here. But after a few years of decline, the state's undocumented population has been holding steady over the past two years.

Scientists Hunt Urchins to Save Kelp
Imagine a grove of trees you can sail down into, 80 feet tall, filled with wildlife. In the Pacific Ocean, that's called a kelp forest. Southern California has lost vast amounts of these underwater forests. In order to restore kelp in a patch of ocean off the Palos Verdes Peninsula, scientists are taking the fight to prospering sea urchins.
