Kevin McCarthy Meets with Immigrant Protesters
A dozen immigrant women from around the state staged a sit-in at Rep. Kevin McCarthy's Bakersfield office, demanding that the House majority whip support a comprehensive immigration reform bill that would include a path to citizenship. Late in the evening, Rep. McCarthy arrived at the office to talk.

Advocates for at-risk students in California are expected to blast the State Board of Education at its meeting today in Sacramento. They say proposed rules governing the state's new funding formula won't help the neediest kids.

Long Beach Provides Model for Pension Reform
Many California cities want to reduce their pension obligations, but have faced roadblocks. Unions have gone to court against cities like San Jose and San Diego for attempting to cut retirement packages or other benefits. A number of judges have ruled that public pensions are a vested right. Long Beach avoided court and ballot battles and has managed to cut into its unfunded liability.
