San Jose Asks for Flexibility in Teacher Tenure Law
Teacher tenure is a hot political topic in California these days. There's at least one major lawsuit pending in Los Angeles, and later today in Sacramento, the San Jose Unified School District will ask the State Board of Education to give it more flexibility to determine when teachers deserve seniority.

California Republicans Make Pitch to Asian-American Voters
In recent years, many Asian-American voters have thrown their growing political weight behind the Democratic Party. That's a troubling trend to Republicans, especially here in California, where the party's older, white political base is shrinking fast. The GOP is making a concerted effort to win back disaffected Asian-American voters and win over new ones.

Lawmaker Pushes to Legalize E-Skateboards
Assemblywoman Kristin Olsen promoted her bill by getting on an e-skateboard across the street from the Capitol as news cameras rolled. The bill would allow the skateboards in the same areas as bikes. She was wobbly, but the skateboard comes off well. It's electrically powered, and that may overcome concerns about noise that led to a ban on motorized skateboards back in the '70s.
