NBA Players and L.A. Civic Leaders Rally After Sterling Ban
The world was watching Staples Center in Los Angeles Tuesday night as the Clippers clocked a win against the Golden State Warriors. Golden State players might have walked off the court if they hadn't heard what they wanted to hear from the NBA about Clippers owner Donald Sterling. But on Tuesday, NBA commissioner Adam Silver banned Sterling from pro basketball for life for his racist remarks.
Coalition Rallies Against Rainy Day Plan, Pushes for Restored Funding
Governor Jerry Brown's admonishments to hold the line on state spending in a manifestly flush year are not sitting well with those hit by years of brutal budget cuts. A coalition of left-leaning groups organized a rally Tuesday in an effort to push Gov. Brown off his conservative, savings-conscious budget agenda. They pushed for $5 billion more for Medi-Cal reimbursements and other safety net programs.
Report: Thousands of Kids Go to School Near Heavy Pesticide Use
A new report shows tens of thousands of students in California attend schools very close to farms where heavy amounts of pesticides are used. Pesticide reform groups have criticized the timing of the study, which was released late last week after a pesticide safety bill failed in a California Senate committee.
